5. We put markers in for every place that we had to mark. Some of the markers that tell you how far you have gone are at the same places.

7. For a 12th marker, we went 60/12=5, therefore every 5km we would have to place a marker for every 12th of the race. For the 6th, we just doubled the answer because half of 12 is 6, and with fractions, and with fractions, the smaller the number, the bigger piece of the fraction, so every 10kms you would put a marker. For every 3rd, you would divide 60 by 3 which equals 20, so every 20kms you would put a 3rd marker. The pattern I noticed was that the distance the markers were to be placed often had a common denominator with another marker.
8. ¼ of 16.
Half of 16 is 8, and half of 8 is 4, so ¼ of 16 is 4. 4+4+4+4 or 4x4, equals 16.
9. 1/4 + 1/5.
If you think about money, 4 quarters make up a dollar, and each quarter equals 25 cents. 1/5 of a dollar is 20 cents, because 100/5=20. 25+20=45. Or, 25/100+ 20/100= 45/100.
3/4+1/2.
Three quarters equal 75 cents, because as I stated above, one quarter is 25 cents. Half of 100 is 50, because 100/2=50. When you add 75 cents to 50 cents, you get $1.25, or 1 ¼.

To be honest... I am very confused as to how I marked this... I'm not very sure what the marks are all for...
