Mary's Pythagoras Growing Post

PART ONE
Describe what a Pythagorean Triple is and use your perfect square chart from 1 squared to 10 squared to find another one other than 3,4,5.

WHAT IS A PYTHAGOREAN TRIPLE ?!?!
The Pythagorean Triple is A squared + B Squared = C Squared. It uses perfect square numbers to satisfy this.
Here is an example of another pythagorean triple using the perfect square chart from 1 - 10.
6 squared + 8 squared = 10 squared.
( a/36 + b/64 = c/100 )

PART TWO

Using embeddable web 2.0, describe how to find the missing side of a Right Triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem, show how to solve both for a missing leg and the hypotenuse (note: you may use numerical examples ie. a=4 b=6 c=?)

PART THREE
Explain how to solve a Pythagoras word problem. Use one of the examples we covered in class (Worksheet A, B, LeFrog or Bonus Problem).

You're locked out of your house, and the only open window is on the second floor, 25 feet above the ground. You'll need to borrow a ladder from one of your neighbours. Also, there's a bush along the edge of the house, so you'll have to place the ladder 10 feet away from the house. What length of ladder do you need to reach the window?

PART FOUR

Angelo was a carpenter . He was hired to make a stairhandle for some stairs, that were 2 meters from the ground, and 3 meters off the wall. How long does the stair handle have to be ?

ANSWER : the stair handle has to be 3.60 meters long .
