I got it wrong the first time, but the second time I understand it, so here it is.

Questions:

1. What strategies were needed?

Answers:

1: The strategies I had used were ratio tables, division, multiplying, and adding

2 : I used this strategy to find out how much ingredients are needed and the cost of the cup.
I took 2 and 2/5 and multiplied by how much was needed to get 12. Which was by 5.

3. I could've used money or a ratio table, which was probably easier. ._.

4: I took 2 and 2/5 and multiplied it by 5 which got to 12 then to get to 6 cups I divided it by 2,
and on the price I did the same thing. 3.60 x 5 = 18.00 divided by 2 = 9.00.

Question One

(a) The strategies that i used for this test were multiplication and division. (a2) I used multiplication to figure out how to get from 2 2/5 to 12. That helped me find out how to solve the other ingredients. The division helped me solve the answer to the ingredients for the 1/2 cup.


(b) I could of used ratio tables, but i didn't. If i did use them, i'd use them to find out the answers for the costs and the cups of ingredients.


(c) Since you can get from 2 2/5 to 12 pretty easily, i would just use the information from the 12 cup container and divide the answers by two, since you can get from 12 to 6 by dividing 12 by two.

(d) These are the three other values that i chose to do, and this is how i would use a ratio table to solve them.

On my real test, I regret that I thought that the only strategy that could be used was multiplying . Because when I saw that 2 2/5 x 5 was 12 (cups) , I just multiplied everything else by 5 , then I couldn't work with decimals so I didn't do the 1/2 cup question . I should have put everything in fraction form so it would look simpler .
3 . How could you of used these strategies.
I should have used more of dividing & ratio tables. if i could find out what 12 cups was by multiplying , i could have found out what 1/2 cup was by dividing . And to get there easily I should have used ratio tables to show my work more clearly .

In class today Mr. Jerema gave us questions.
He wrote on the board :
- 1/2 of 36 =
- 1/4 of 36 =
- 1/8 of 36 =
- 5/8 of 36 =

To make things simpler, i just switched the question into an easier form.
- 36 divided by (1/2) 2 = 18
- 36 divided by (1/4) 4 = 9
- 36 divided by (1/8) 8 = 4.5

It was easy to find out what 1/4 and 1/8 because 1/4 is just half of 1/2 . so if 1/2 = 18 . Then 18 divided by 2 = 9 (1/4) . Then 1/8 is half of 1/4 . So 9(1/4) divided by 2 = 4.5 (1/8).

The 5/8 question was harder but you have to make it into a simpler form .
5/8 don't go nice together so you make it into 4/8 . Since 4/8 is another way of saying 1/2 , you get the answer that you got for the first question which was 18 .
Then , since you only have 1/8 left , again you just get the answer you got for the third question , which was 4.5 .

So basically , you're just adding question 1 & 3 together to get question 4 .
So the answer is (18 + 4.5 =) 22.5 .

The strategies i used to get the answers were dividing and multiplying .

2 2/5 * 5 = 12


SHREDDIES - 1 1/5 * 5 = 6 cups

PEANUTS - 4/5 * 5 = 4 cups


PRETZELS - 2/5 * 5 = 2 cups

6 + 4 + 2 =12 CUPS

i multiplied the cups by 5 because 2 2/5 multiplied by 5 equals 12.

SHREDDIES - 6 / 24 = 3 / 3/12

PEANUTS - 4 / 24 =2 / 2/12

i divided the answers of the 12 cups by 24 because 12 divided by 24 equals 0.50 / 1/2 cup.

For my strategie using circles I just cut the circles up into equal pieces and then used fractions.

For my strategie uing money I made the pizzas into dollars so it ould look like 3 pizzas equals $3.00 then i would divide the $3.00 by the number of people their sharing the pizzas with then it would give us a decimal answer then you would convert into a fraction.

12 Cups...

Most peeps had to use a ratio table to solve most of the questions. I also use equivalent fractions to make my answers shorter and easier to understand. My other strategy is long division.

I used the the ratio table to get the answer for 12 cups and also to get the price. Using my brain I multiplied 2 2/5 cups by 5 to get 12 cups. As for the price i also multiplied $3.60 by 5 and got $18.00.

1/2 Cup...
I used the same thing but to get the answers i had to do some stuff.

First, I had to divide 2 2/5 by a number to get 1/2 but it was pretty hard so i had to use long division. I still didn't got the explanation but I got an answer. I still used the same denominator, 12, then I divided the cups for the ingredients by 2 using 12 as the denominator and i got 6 cups out of 12 cups. I can also use a ratio table and it will be much easier.

In this ratio table I started with the 2 2/5 cup until I got to 1 cup and found out the price for each cup.

I also found out different cups like for 3 cups, the price would be $4.50 as shown in the ratio table. I also found out the price for 1 cup, $1.50, by using the ratio table. If you multiply 12 by 2 and so is the price you'll get 24 cup with the price of $36.00.

First, to get from 2 2/5 to 12 C, you multiply 2 2/5 by 5.

2 2/5 x 5 = 12 cups

Since we multiplied that one times 5, we have to times 5 on all of them.

These would be the amount of indredients in the 12 cup container :

(s s) 1 1/5 = 6 C

(peanuts) 4/5 x 5 = 4 C

(pretzels) 1/5 x 5 = 2 C

1/2 cup :

To get from 12 to 1/2, you have to devide 12 into 24, so i just divided the answers of the 12 cup container by 24.

These would be the answers to the 1/2 cup container :

(spicy shreadies) 6 / 24 = 0.25 = 1/4 C

(peanuts) 4 / 24 = 1/6 C

(pretzels) 2 / 24 = 1/12 C

Price :

(12 cup)

We started off with a $3.60 2 2/5 cup container. Since we multiplied everything by 5 to get the answers for the 12 cup, i'm multiplying $3.60 x 5 which equals $18.00. So it would cost $18.00 for a 12 cup container.

(1/2 cup)

I took the answer of the 12 cup container ($18.00) and divided it by 24 which equalled $0.75. So, a 1/2 cup container would be 75 cents.

For this investigation, we had to answer 3 questions involving Maria's trip to her two friends house's, Lance and Alicia. The three questions we had to answer due to the information on the sheet.

Question one was : How many gallons of gas and what fraction of a full tank of gas did Maria use on the turnpike driving from her house to Lance's house?

Question two was:What fraction of the full tank of gas did she use on the turnpike driving the combined distance from her house to Lance's house to Alicia's house?

Question three: How much time did she spend driving on the turnpike when she drivees back home to Philadelphia?

What I did to solve these questions was:

1. For the first question, I decided to make a ratio table first, so I could figure out how many miles Maria could go for each gallon. I added 33 over and over again 15 times to figure out how many miles she could go with a full tank.
After I did this, I looked at the mile markers, and since the mile marker at Maria's house is 352, and the one at Lance's house is 242, I subtracted 242 from 352 to find out the distance in between. I made the fraction 110/495, which simplified is 2/9.
I then looked on the chart and found out that 110 miles is 3 1/3 gallons. So Maria used up 2/9 of her gas tank, which is 3 1/3 gallons.

2. The mile marker at Lance's house is 242, and the mile marker at Alicia's house is 55, so I subtracted them again to get 187.
I then went back to the previous question and added 110 and 187 to get 297/495, which simplified is 9/15, or 3/5.
On the ratio table on question 1, it says that 9 gallons is 297 miles, therefore Maria must have used 9 gallons of her gas tank.

3. On the information paper it said that Maria travels for 1 hour and 40 minutes for 110 miles. I made a clock to show that 1 hour and 40 minutes is also equal to 100 minutes. Knowing that, I went 100/110x297 (From the previous question_=270\60 (the whole of the clock) =4.5
I converted 4.5 to time, and agreed that Maria traveled 4 hours and 30 minutes. I also drew a double number line to represent the map, and I wrote down basically the same information I stated in the previous questions.

So 1/2 + 1/6 is larger than 1/4 + 7/12. And I did clocks on the paper instead of the clocks on the growing post.
