Luck's Growing Post

The water stations are blue and food wagons are brown we divided th km by the denminator.
which is bigger 1/2+1/6 or 1/4+7/12

1/2 is 30 mins 1/6 is 10 mins 40 plus 10 is 40 mins

1/4 is 15 mins 7/12 is 35mins 15+35=50

40 is less than 50 1/4+7/12 is larger

To find how many kilometres to next water station or anything else we divided the amount of total km by the denominator of each fraction eg water station every 1/12 of the way.

60/12 =5 water stations every 5km

Grandpy hides behind the bush and you have to guess what fraction of yhe bush he is hiding behind.

16/4=4

1/2 +1/4 is not 2/6 why not
You do not add the denomnators togehter you only add the numerators together once they have a common denominator.

I give myself a 29 out of 35.

Jasmine's growing post

1 half plus 1 sixth is smaller than 1 fourth plus seventh twelves because, think of a clock and and 1 half is 30 minutes plus 1 sixth is 10 minutes which is 40 minutes all together and 1 fourth is 15 minutes and seventh twelves is 35 minutes which is 50 minutes. So that means that 1 fourth plus seventh twelves is bigger than 1 half plus 1 sixth.

Katarina's Blogging for Blogging

- What was the hardest thing about this unit?

I did not find this unit to be hard at all, but I found some of the work we did to be very annoying.
It was mostly the fractions that were harder to convert, or some of the sub questions that required more thinking about. Not that I don't like thinking and doing math, but I think that everyone would agree that the sub questions where we had more than one extra person to divide the subs by to be annoying. Like instead of 8 people and 7 subs, having 7 subs and 10 people. Grrr...

- What do you understand now that you did not understand before?

I think that I found some new ways to solve problems. I used to solve everything the same way, and I found that my way of solving problems was not always the most efficient thing.

- If you had to teach your parents about fractions, what would it be and how would you do it?

I would show my parents how to use clocks, and how to convert fractions into time, such as 2/5 of an hour would be 24 minutes.
I would do this by drawing them purdy pictures in which their old eyes could easily understand. ^_^

Charity's Blogging on Blogging

What was the hardest thing about this unit?
Showing 1/5 and 1/10 on the clock because you have to get the percise location.

What do you understand now that you did not understand before?
Showing the clock method because before I just showed my work by using the rectangles.

If you had to teach your parents something about fractions what would it be and how would you do it?
I would teach my parents how divding and fractions are related. I would show it and prove it to them by either drawing a rectangle and dividing it or drawing a clock and dividing it.

3.

4. 60 divided by 6 equals 10 minutes and 60 divided by 3 equals 30 minutes
add them together and you get 40 minutes. or 40/60
--------------------------------------------
60 divided by 12 equals 5 then you times 5 by 7 which equals 35 minutes and 60 divided by 4 equals 15 minutes.
add them together and you get 50 minutes or 50/60

the larger one is 50/60 or 7/12 + 1/4

Bike race by Joceyne and Chaseley

5.What me and chaseley did was that we divided how many kilometers that were in the race by how many kilometers where the resting points or food wagons and stuff were. And we marked the points and stations with different colours like juice and snacks were green and resting points were purple.

6. http://www.primarygames.com/fractions/1a.htm
What you have to do in this game is that you have to figure out how much of the pizza is left in fractions. What i think is good about this game is that you get to learn your fractions and its easy because you already know how do do it because its almost the same thing as doing the clock.

7. What I did to get a twelfth, sixth, and third in my bike race was I divided 60 by 12, 6, and 3 . The pattern I saw was that 12, 6, and 3 were just all multiples of eachother.

8. 16 : 1/4 of 16 is 4 because you have to divide the denominator which is 4 by 16 which equals 4. And you could double check by multiplying 4 by 4 and it will equal 16. Then 3/4 of 16 is 12 because since you already know what 1/4 of 16 is then you just have to multiply 4 by 3 because 4 is 1/4 of 16 then when you multiply it by the numerator of 3/4 then it gives you 3/4 of 16 which is 12.

9. 4/12 + 1/3 < 1/4 + 10/12

1/12 is 5 mins because 60 divided by 12 is 5 then you multiply 5 by 4 to get 4/12 which is 20 mins then you add 1/3 which is 20 mins because 60 divided by 3 equals 20 then you have to add 20mins + 20mins which is 40mins.

1/4 is 15 mins because 60 divided by 4 is 15 then you add 10/12 which is 50 because you divide 60 by 12 which is 5 then you times it by 10 to get 50mins. Then you add 15 and 50 which is 65 mins.

65 mins is larger than 40 mins.

1/2 + 1/6 or 1/4 + 7/12

We change them into clocks and did the work. We found out that

1/2 + 1/6 < 1/4 + 7/12
Robbie's Bike Race

We had to label stuff. We did long division
The patterns we saw for twelfth, sixth and thirds, we saw that 1/12 is half of 1/6 and 1/6 is half of 1/3.

The game I found was http://www.mrnussbaumgames.com/pizza_game/index.html this game is putting pizza toppings on a pizza. Theres diffrent sizes of pizzas and you have to full out an order.

2 diffrent ways to get 3/4 of 16 is you divide 16 by 4. Which equals 4, then you times it by 3 to equal 12 and thats 3/4 of 16.A second way to get it is find half of it which equals 8 then half 8 equals 4 then 8 + 4 = 12

7/12 + 1/2 you change them into clocks. 1/12 of 60 is 5 minutes times 7 then = 35 minutesthen 1/2 of 60 they equal 30 minutes35 minutes + 30 minutes= 65 minutes

Zedrick's First Growing Post

1/4 and 7/12 is bigger cause, 1/4 equals 15 mins and 7/12 equals 35 mins
15+35=50 mins
1/2 and 1/6 is smaller cause, 1/2 equals 30 mins and 1/6 equals 10 mins
30+10=40 mins
